Priceless hugs: Giving and getting them

This week I got the most amazing gift, the gift of childhood. No,I didn’t have a child, but I once again experienced what it is like to live as carefree as a child. For a few moments I gave up being an adult, and played like a child, and it has truly fed my soul!

This week my 12 year old nephew came to stay with us at “Auntie camp”. Kyle is an amazingly smart young man, who is so driven that he gets mad at himself for missing even one question on a math test.

He loves math so we thought it would be great to have him come to Robotics camp to loosen up, to learn to play while still learning to write code, and all those other things it takes to build a robot. (I was never very good at math!)

What I didn’t realize was that this was also my “camp”. That I was also going to get to learn. He has helped me understand what it means to play joyfully and not have a care in the world.
He has taught me how to laugh from my stomach, and to do a handstand in the pool. We have eaten popcorn for dinner, and had donuts for dessert. We have gone to really bad movies, and snickered at really bad “fart” jokes. We have laughed and laughed.

I will remember and treasure all these “lessons” that have helped me to loosen up, but the best moment came last night when Kyle sat next to me on the couch, and gave me a hug. There is nothing quite like it. I immediately felt even better, like I had been given another gift. So, Kyle thank you for making “Auntie camp” so enjoyable.

Now I want you to have the gift as well. So, go out there today, and give someone a hug. I promise it will make you, and them, feel so much better!

  1. that WAS a perfect weekend, what an amazing little boy. I love how he taught you to do all those things, to “laugh from the belly” …sounds like a whole lot of good stuff comes from Auntie Camp. 🙂

  2. Auntie Camp sounds Perfect!I loved the video on hugging…and the music. In my Yoga Teacher Training we just talked about how deprived people are (in general) for touch. Hugging is a great way to let people know you care.I am visiting from Perfect Moment Monday! Thanks for sharing your Perfect Moment!
